Camera Shy - Ornament (Print)
“Camera Shy” is one of my favorite pieces. This painting was a labor of love for my Father of his favorite dog Daisy. I had photographed Daisy during one of my visits, and true to form, when Daisy saw the camera come out, she looked for a place to hide. As she hid in the grass, my shutter snapped, and this is the image I captured.
After Daisy had passed, I decided to make something special for my Dad. I spent weeks painting this watercolor, as I strove to capture every minute detail of that moment in time. I was very excited and proud when I gave this to my father that Christmas. In my mind, I knew how he would react to seeing it. Except…he didn’t.
When he opened the carefully wrapped package, he took one look at it and said, “Oh, that’s nice. Thank you, Melissa.” He thought it was a printed photograph! Once he realized his daughter had created that painting, he was overwhelmed and couldn’t thank me enough. He was so very proud. I was as well.
He spent the rest of his life bragging about his painting to anyone who would listen. He traveled with it to one of my art shows (see second picture) and proudly presented it to everyone who stopped by that evening.
When Dad moved into assisted care, during his final years, he refused to be parted from his beloved painting. This painting hung proudly in his room until his final days.
Knowing he would be proud to share his beloved Daisy, I’ve decided to offer reproductions of this work in the form of this ornament as well as 8” x 8” high-quality archival prints. I hope you enjoy this labor of love. It’s very special to me.
I will carefully package each ornament in a high-quality, burlap gift bag for protection and ease of gift giving.
Please note: Each ornament is one-of-a kind. No two are alike, as the size and shape of the wood slices are not uniform. Also, all beads will be wooden, but the shade may vary.
Approximately 2.4” - 2.8” diameter.
Ornaments are made to order - please allow extra time, as I will be working carefully to create your individual orders.
