Who Cooks for You? - Card

$8.50

If you’ve spent much time out in Nature, there is a good chance you’ve heard the iconic owl call, “who cooks for you?”

I hear it often from my deck here in the Appalachian Mountains and I never tire of the Barred Owl’s vocalizations. The male Barred Owl uses this call during the breeding season, to advertise his presence and attract a female. I once witnessed this firsthand from my deck as I listened to the call one evening. In a burst of activity, two Barred Owls flew upward from the trees and began their mating flight – not more than 50 feet from where I sat transfixed. It was an absolute privilege to behold!  For ten minutes, I listened and marveled at their intricate dance.  That moment is forever and indelibly marked in my mind’s eye.

This haunting call is also used to strengthen pair bonds between mates. Once a pair has formed, they often vocalize together, with the male and female taking turns calling to each other. I hear that “conversation” occurring almost every morning and evening from my home and it is forever linked with the mating flight of those two beautiful owls.

This card is from an original painting inspired by the interaction witnessed and bonding heard over countless “conversations” as I listen to the Barred Owl’s haunting call from my beautiful mountain home.

I hope you enjoy this second in my new series of fine art greeting cards.

This greeting card is a high quality, large 5” x 7” card printed on heavy card stock with a satin finish. The card is created with framing in mind.
