I can not describe the heart-pounding joy I felt as I watched a mama black bear and her three cubs meander through my property a few years back. The boisterous siblings were frolicking happily, unaware mama had sat down, practically in the thick blueberry shrubs. Had it not been for her tasty meal before her, she may have told them to “ settle down”, as moms often do in exasperation. I kept one eye on mama and the other on the cubs as I took photo after photo. This painting is inspired by one of my favorite shots…one of the cubs catching his breath watching his siblings carrying on. It didn’t take him long before entering back into the happy fray.
